Making Requests

Please fill out a Journal Article Request or a Book Request.

When submitting an ILL request please be sure to provide:

Your full name
Your contact information: email address and phone number
Your ACP status
Complete citation. For requests found on PubMed please include the PMID number. For books please provide an ISBN if available.

You will be notified by email or phone when you loan arrives. You may keep photocopied items. All other requests should be returned to the Circulation Desk by the date indicated on the item.

Purpose

The primary purpose of interlibrary loan (ILL) is to support the research of our students, faculty, and staff by obtaining material unavailable in our library. The conditions of interlibrary loan service are set by local agreements, the regulations of individual libraries, the National Interlibrary Loan Code, and copyright law.

Eligible Users

Albany College of Pharmacy students, faculty, and staff may use ILL service. There is no limit on the number of requests an individual may submit.

Item Availability

Before submitting a request please check local holdings for availability.

For journal articles check online availability by visiting our E-Journals page. If the journal title is not found here, search WebCat for print availability at ACP and AMC libraries. If a journal is available at AMC the fastest way to get it may be to go to AMC yourself.

For books check WebCat for availability at ACP and AMC libraries. If the book is available at AMC the fastest way to get it may be to go to AMC yourself. ACP students, faculty, and staff are eligible to register for an AMC library card and may borrow up to two books at a time. If the item is not available locally please send your request to the Library.

We will make every effort to complete your requests but in some cases lending libraries may refuse our requests (i.e., requests for entire journal issues, reference books, fragile items, audiovisuals and often denied). Please consult a staff member if you have a question about the availability of a particular item.

Processing Time

Your request will be processed as quickly as possible, but exactly when you will receive the material depends on the lending library. Local libraries may process loans in less than a week. Requests processed out of the area may take up to two weeks.

Renewals

If you know you will not be done with materials by the due date please let us know several days in advance. Renewal requests are usually granted by the lending library as long as they are made in advance.

Cost

The Lewis Library currently provides standard ILL service to our patrons free of charge. You are held responsible, however, for any charges by lending libraries for materials you lose or return late or damaged.

Assistance

Please see a member of the library staff for assistance. Assistance can also be obtained by calling the Library at 694-7350 or by emailing ill@acp.edu.
